Dog Rose forms part of the Native Collection - a series of paintings inspired by my love of wave gliding, edible wild plants and mushrooms that line the Cornish coast, and that indescribable sense of wonder at the fact that something called existence exists.

A bit about the dog rose flower (rosa canina)...
I remember when I first found out the petals of the dog rose were edible it made me very happy... for some reason it felt unlikely and overly generous that such a pretty flower that smelled so sweet could on top of that also be edible. The dog rose is very common in the sand dunes near where I live in Cornwall. That season I made some rose petal jam, and added the petals to salads, desserts and smoothies, celebrating my (at the time) new favourite edible. Always conscious of course never to take more than what I intended to eat, since there are creatures that rely on these flowers far more than me for their survival
